Villa Zaffiro
Amalfi Coast, Italy

Villa Zaffiro occupies a dramatic clifftop position on the Amalfi Coast, carved into the rock face above open sea with uninterrupted views across the Gulf of Salerno. The house is unusual in both bones and presentation — a series of board-formed concrete barrel vaults built directly into the cliff, now restored as a private villa and layered with Mediterranean planting until the building itself reads as a natural continuation of the hillside.
The principal interior is a single long vaulted volume with polished Carrara floors, whitewashed walls, and exposed concrete above. The furnishings are a curated mix — Le Corbusier LC1 chairs, Marcel Breuer Wassily armchairs, low modular linen sofas, and a deep shelving wall displaying a collection of antique Mediterranean apothecary jars, coral, shells, and Murano glass. A separate living space with a rough concrete ceiling and sculpted white alcoves sits one level down.
The outdoor program is what sets the property apart. A full-length infinity pool is built into the cliff edge, with agave and wild capers growing from the surrounding rockwork. A vine-covered pergola terrace wraps the seaward side of the house — its stone arches so densely draped in ivy and grape that the sea appears framed through leaves. Two long shared dining tables are set under the vines for lunch and breakfast. A separate stone outdoor kitchen sits further along the property, with pizza oven, plancha grill, and marble prep counters under a rustic timber pergola. A terracotta-tiled sun terrace with deck chairs looks straight across the water.
Eight bedrooms are distributed across the property, accommodating up to sixteen guests. Positano, Amalfi, and Ravello are within easy reach by road or private boat, and Naples airport is approximately one hour away.
