Casa Vera
Sicily, Italy

Set high on a hillside in the Sicilian countryside, Casa Vera is a contemporary six-bedroom villa designed around its position and its views. The architecture is low, white, and quietly modern, built into the slope with dry-stone retaining walls of local limestone and oriented to take in the long sweep of olive groves, scrubland, and the distant sea beyond.
Inside, the interiors are calm and tactile: hand-troweled microcement walls and ceilings, polished concrete floors, and large picture windows that frame the landscape like artwork. The open living room opens to a dining area and a clean, contemporary kitchen, layered with Berber rugs, mid-century chairs, ceramics, and a wall of patterned tilework that lends warmth to the pared-back palette. The six bedrooms are restful and uncluttered, several opening directly onto the terraces.
Outdoor living runs the length of the house. A long infinity-edge pool sits at the cliff's edge, flanked by sun loungers and a timber deck, with steel-framed pergolas shading an outdoor dining table and lounge seating. Dry-stone walls, cacti, bougainvillea, and terracotta pots frame the spaces, and as the sun sets over the hills the whole terrace turns gold — an ideal setting for long alfresco dinners.
Casa Vera is within easy reach of Sicily's beaches, baroque towns, vineyards, and archaeological sites, offering a private rural retreat with the coast a short drive away.
