Villa Alang Alang
Costa Rica

Set on a secluded hillside at the entrance of Tamarindo, this tropical wood-and-stone home rises across multiple levels beneath thatched pavilion roofs, decks stepping down toward the Tamarindo estuary and the coastline beyond. Bamboo and forest canopy frame the approach, the compound settling quietly into the hillside above the water.
Inside, an ironwood dining table holds court beneath an open-air pavilion, wicker sofas gathered nearby before views that stretch past the estuary to open ocean. The kitchen runs along wood cabinetry topped in dark stone, open shelving holding a scatter of carved stone objects. Bathrooms carry rough-hewn stone tile throughout, one holding a soaking tub carved from a single block of stone before a garden window. A media room downstairs holds a low sectional sofa before a wall of built-in shelving, and a wellness room nearby opens to natural light for stretching and light training.
Outside, two pools overflow toward the view: a lap pool traces the hillside before ending in an open-sided thatched bale fitted with a daybed, while the main-floor pool spills over its edges on every side, mirroring the sky above the estuary. The quiet of the hillside holds steady above Tamarindo's distant hum.
