Coeur de la Montagne sits among a grove of quaking aspens in Mountain Village, dark board-and-batten and stone stepping down the slope in layers of deck and terrace. Black-framed windows run across the back of the house, drawing in the San Juan Mountains and the shimmer of aspen leaves in the breeze. The architecture is calm, modern and quietly pared back — it lets the landscape do the talking.

Inside, the mood stays low and unhurried. A vaulted ceiling of weathered wood planking lifts the living room, where cream sofas, leather armchairs and a timber coffee table sit beneath vintage ski posters, and a sleek fireplace anchors the open kitchen, dining and living spaces. By the door, a dark-paneled mudroom with a long wood bench and an antler chandelier takes care of the gear. Each of the four bedrooms has its own ensuite — three with king beds in crisp neutral linens, the fourth with bunks and a lounge, a large couch and a flat-screen for movie or game nights. One bath pairs a wall of weathered wood with round brass mirrors and a freestanding tub.

Outside, multi-level decks step down to a stone-walled terrace where a cedar hot tub sits among the trees, with room above for long dinners and slow afternoons. After a day of skiing or hiking, or a wander into Telluride, the evening is simple — the tub, the aspens, and a sky full of stars.
