Villa Los Tilos
Los Angeles, CA

Cut into the hillside above Hollywood, this contemporary residence by architect Marc Whipple stacks in clean-lined concrete and stucco volumes, terraces cascading down toward the city below. A ramped drive descends past board-formed concrete walls to a glass-and-wood entry, the boxy modern form settling quietly into the slope, sweeping views of the basin opening from nearly every level.
Inside, the kitchen runs along European-designed cabinetry in dark wood, a pair of waterfall marble islands anchoring the room beneath porcelain tile floors, a wood-paneled bar nearby stocked with glassware and city views through the glass. The living room holds a deep white sectional beneath wood-plank ceilings, a floating wood-and-glass staircase rising past built-in shelving and colorful portrait artwork. A glass-enclosed wine room sits just off the dining area, bottles racked behind a wall of glass. Down the hall, a primary suite opens in full glass along one wall, sliding doors framing the turf lawn and pool deck beyond.
Outside, an infinity pool traces the edge of a terraced deck, the city spreading out in every direction below. A turf lawn holds space for a table tennis table and casual lounging, while a rooftop terrace above carries an outdoor kitchen, a dining table, a fire pit, and low lounge seating beneath the open sky. The hillside quiet holds steady above the city's constant hum.
