Villa Lechusa
Malibu, CA

Two acres of gated land in the hills above western Malibu, with the Pacific visible on the horizon at dusk — this is the quieter version of Malibu that most guests never find. The property sits at the end of its own drive, enclosed by mature trees and native landscape, the kind of privacy that doesn't announce itself. White stucco and a standing-seam black roof give the main house a considered, modern farmhouse presence — unpretentious from the outside, deliberate within.
Inside, the ceilings rise through the kitchen and main living area, clad in warm wood planking that runs the length of the vault. Oak cabinetry, a stone-topped island, and woven pendants overhead keep the kitchen grounded and genuinely livable. The primary bedroom carries the same material language — fluted natural wood bed frame, oak nightstands, a clerestory window framing nothing but treetops and sky. Throughout, the palette stays close to the land: warm neutrals, light oak flooring, white walls that hold the California light without competing with it. A separate guest structure sits quietly on the property — finished to the same standard, useful as overflow accommodation or a private retreat for whoever needs it most.
The wraparound Ipe deck opens to a full-sized pool and spa, lounge chairs arranged unhurriedly on the surround, and a flat lawn beyond that actually invites use — cornhole already set up, room to breathe. At sunset, the hills turn amber and the ocean catches the last of the light in the distance. Most guests, it seems, stop making plans somewhere around then.
