Autumn Estate sits above Mountain Village where the aspen and spruce give way to the San Juan Mountains, timber and stone rising to meet a skyline of snow. The house reads like it grew out of the hillside — dark board-and-batten siding, deep stone foundations, decks cantilevered toward the peaks — a short walk from the lifts at Telluride Ski Resort, and nothing about it feels like a resort.

Inside, vaulted wood-beamed ceilings carry the mountains' scale indoors, and a stone fireplace anchors the great room beneath a spiral stair. The kitchen's oversized island and high-end appliances face the same view that fills every window, and a curved dining nook — wrapped in arched glass, ringed by a leather banquette — gathers the table for dinner. Leather sofas, kilim textiles, and Southwestern art keep the rooms warm rather than polished. Five ensuite bedrooms spread across three levels: a king suite upstairs with its own patio, three more below, and a reclaimed-wood bunk room built for the grandchildren.

Patios wrap the house at nearly every level, each framing its own slice of the San Juan range. Dial-a-Ride handles the trip into the Village Core for dinner at Tomboy Tavern or an afternoon of shopping, and the free gondola drops guests straight into the historic streets of Telluride below. Most evenings, though, no one goes far — the mountains are close enough to watch from the porch.
