Villa Aspenglow
Aspen, CO

Aspenglow Chalet takes its name from the color that settles over these peaks at day's start and end, and the house was built to catch it — floor-to-ceiling windows in the great room, a hot tub outside positioned for the same view at dawn or dusk. Set into the hillside above Breckenridge's Gold Flake neighborhood, the chalet reads as mountain architecture — river-stone accents, a turreted window bay, deep porches — built to hold its ground against the snow and disappear into the aspens come summer.
The great room rises to a vaulted ceiling anchored by a stone fireplace, log-frame chairs pulled close for evenings that start with a fire and end late. The kitchen, recently remodeled, opens onto a table that seats twelve, with two more at the breakfast bar. Downstairs, a game room with a pool table and a projector screen gives the group somewhere to land, alongside two of the five bedrooms — one with a queen, another rigged with bunks for the kids. Upstairs, two primary suites with king beds and ensuite baths sit under the same peaked windows, with a fifth bedroom, two twins, for the rest.
Outside, the hot tub does the work a pool would do elsewhere — a place to sit still and watch the light change on the ridgeline. The free shuttle to the ski area and the hiking trails stops down the street. By the time the sky turns the color the house is named for, no one's in a hurry to go back inside.
